The vineyards of Brouilly were designated as a Beaujolais Cru on October 19, 1938. They are the largest Cru, covering around 1300 hectares and 6 villages (Cercié-en-Beaujolais, Charentay, Odenas, Quincié-en-Beaujolais, Saint Etienne la Varenne, Saint-Lager). The Cru takes its name from a 485 meter high "mountain", the Mount Brouilly. The wines are a deep ruby colour with aromas of red fruits and mineral notes. The most southerly of the Crus, these wines are robust and full-bodied.
